Indian payment gateway provider Razorpay has made an acquisition announcement, revealing its purchase of BillMe, a Mumbai-based startup specializing in digital invoicing and customer engagement. The specific financial details of the deal remain undisclosed.

Founded in 2018, BillMe has established its presence in the market by serving more than 15,000 retail points of sale, catering to over 4,000 businesses, including notable brands like McDonald’s, Burger King, Baggit, and Relaxo Footwear. One of BillMe's standout features is its ability to facilitate rapid deployment of digital invoicing in under 10 minutes, requiring minimal technical input from the merchant's side.

This strategic acquisition by Razorpay enables businesses to harness BillMe's technology to analyze customer behavior, allowing for the creation of personalized offers and product recommendations. The digital invoicing system also facilitates seamless customer engagement, eliminating friction and providing opportunities for cross-selling, feedback collection, and the implementation of loyalty programs and promotions.

Notably, this acquisition marks Razorpay's eighth acquisition, following its purchase of payment company Ezetap in August 2022. Kuber Pritmani, Co-Founder of BillMe, expressed optimism about the partnership, emphasizing the potential to enhance tech expertise and improve client value. Razorpay's Co-founder, Shashank Kumar, highlighted the importance of businesses transitioning from paper bills to digital invoices to smartly engage with customers and accelerate growth through technology-driven tools.
